Machina Lumina is a unique travelling light experience featuring 10 interactive light and media installations that explore the magic and mechanics of light itself.
Debuting in Bruges in 2025 at the annual Winter Light Festival Wintergloed, Machina Lumina takes visitors on an enchanting evening walk, revealing the stages light must pass through before it is born and begins its journey into the world. Along the way, you’ll encounter 10 immersive stops, each unveiling a step in the production of light — from raw material to dazzling final creation.
But you’re not just observing. Together with mysterious characters who cannot exist without light, you take the controls, keeping the giant, fantastical machine in motion.
This family-friendly experience blends interactivity, wonder, and fun, immersing visitors in a magical world where every step offers a glimpse into the inner workings of Machina Lumina.
The entire Machina Lumina production is by CREATE.eu, who managed every aspect — from concept development and project management to technical engineering, AV production, software, installation, post-event support, and dismantling.
Another stunning fusion of art, sound, light, and interactivity, Machina Lumina elevates the Winter Light Festival Wintergloed to new heights.
In the Prismatorium, the light is charged with color: blue, green, and red — the foundation from which every possible shade can be created. The Magdalena Church provides the backdrop for this play of colors.
Photonflux (Speed):
At the kiosk in the park flashes Photonflux, you experience the dynamic part of Machina Lumina that accelerates light. Here, you become the director:set the light in motion, solo or in a group, and experience how your energy gives the magic an extra boost.
Shadowland:
Those who enter the light cast a shadow. Here shadow figures dance, dream, and rest. Discover how you become part of this shadow world and even form your own shadow figure thanks to the light of the Machina.
Machina Lumina:
The light core has arrived at the oldest part of the Machina where it is concentrated to its highest essence and rises to the highest point of the Machina, ready to be activated.
Waves:
The light is almost ready: formed, accelerated, colored, and activated, but not yet free to travel. To reach the world, it still has to learn one thing: to move. And for that, it needs waves — which the visitors create.
The Glittering Forest:
Llight in nature seems self-evident. We recognize it in the sparkle of stars, the glow of an aurora, the mysterious brightness of luminous animals. The Glittering Forest is the zone where the light, carefully composed in Machina Lumina, finds its place in the world. It is the result of craftsmanship by beings that cannot exist without light. Step into their world.
